A fresh wave of scoffers is sweeping over the U.S. this summer. Yesterday, I reported the new "God Is Disappointed In You" bible, and today there's word of a new program called Black Jesus. It premieres Thursday, August 7th, at 11p ET on [adult swim]. This Jesus tells people he died for their (bleeping) sins.
Warning: The trailer for this new "Black Jesus" has bleeped out expletives. And this is the "cleaned-up" version:
The Christian Postreports that the group One Million Moms is spearheading a campaign to get the show cancelled ahead of its air date. The CP has a full review (if you don't mind all the pop-up ads at that site), but here is the gist of the article:
McGruder's "Black Jesus" features Christianity's revered and central figure living in Compton, California, and going about a "daily mission to spread love and kindness throughout the neighborhood with the help of his small but loyal group of downtrodden followers," according to a press release from Adult Swim.
Although two trailers released over the weekend show Jesus (played by Gerald "Slink" Johnson), talking faith and salvation to his neighbors and spearheading efforts for a community garden, "Black Jesus" also shows the faux messiah dropping four-letter expletives and being accused of "smoking all the f------ weed," in addition to being shot at and getting carjacked. This one falls on the heels of last summer's movie, “Rapture Palooza,” a film that was created to mock not only those who love Christ, but Christ Himself. 2Peter 3:3 warns us that "in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires" (Jude 1:18). We know from Scripture that scoffing will only increase as we near the time for Jesus' return (2 Timothy 3:1-5).
